2014 SAGES Advancement in Agricultural Studies Scholarship

The Student Association of the Geneva Experiment Station (SAGES) is now accepting applications for the 2014 Advancement in Agricultural Studies Scholarship. Members of SAGES include graduate students and post-doctoral associates of Cornell University’s New York State Agricultural Experiment Station (NYSAES), and the Advancement of Agricultural Studies Scholarship was established as a way to give back to the communities that have contributed so much to their lives and educations at NYSAES and Cornell.

SAGES established this scholarship in 2009, and since then has awarded $3,900 to local high school seniors who have shown leadership in the classroom and in their communities, and who have expressed a desire to pursue higher education in agriculturally-related fields of study.  Seven exceptional students have been recipients of this scholarship, most recently Jose Mendoza (Geneva High School, class of 2013) and Jacob Morgan (Union Springs High School, class of 2013).  SAGES hopes to build upon this legacy by offering a $500 scholarship to up to two deserving students from the Class of 2014.

The scholarship committee will accept applications from graduating seniors from high schools serving Geneva, Penn Yan, Phelps, Rushville, Romulus, Ovid, Waterloo, Seneca Falls, Lansing, Newfield, Dundee, Groton, Southern Cayuga, Union Springs, Montour Falls, Watkins Glen, Trumansburg, Dryden, and Ithaca.  Successful applicants must be graduating high school seniors who intend to enroll in a 2 or 4-year degree program in the agricultural sciences (examples are listed on the application).  Eligible students can obtain application materials online (https://sagesnysaes.wordpress.com/sages-scholarship/), by emailing the chair of the SAGES Scholarship Committee, Carmen Wickware (clw228@cornell.edu), or from their high school guidance counselor. Applications are due by April 30th, 2014 and the two winners will be notified by the end of May.
