2011 SAGES Agricultural Scholarship

Dear NYSAES Community,

The SAGES cider sale had another successful year and raised enough funds to award a scholarship of $500 to two graduating high school seniors who intend to pursue an advanced degree (Associates or Bachelors) in the agricultural sciences. We sincerely thank all of you for your support and contributions.

Since all of the NYSAES departments have merged with their Ithaca campus counterparts (and we are all Cornellians), we have decided to extend our scholarship eligibility – hitherto restricted to Geneva-area high schools – to  schools in Ithaca and Seneca County.  We also would like to emphasize that as one community, we value both campuses and their equally-important contributions to our lives and educations.  To further cooperation and ties with the main campus, SAGES is also considering expanding its cider sale activities to the Ithaca-based departments in upcoming years.

Please find attached our 2011 scholarship application package and distribute to individuals who you think might be eligible and interested in applying. Please also let me know by February 15th, if you are interested in serving on the “The SAGES Advancement of Agricultural Studies” scholarship committee. Time commitment is going to minimal for this duty, but there will be at least one organizational meeting and one longer meeting to discuss and review scholarship applications.

Thank you again for your support to the SAGES.

On behalf of SAGES,

M. Zeki Durak, Treasurer

2011 SAGES Agricultural Scholarship

The Davis Gallery @ Houghton House’s second show of the year features the work of the Phillips’ company, Miles and May Furniture Works. You’ll see several finished pieces, the jigs Brandon Phillips designs to make the furniture, and mock-ups. (And yes, they will take orders if you wish to actually purchase a piece!)

  • Davis Gallery at Houghton House
